World War I collection, 1915-1939.

Collection of documents relating to World War I, 1915-1939. It includes letters from American servicemen, as well as other correspondence, ephemera, and articles related to the war. Servicemen with groups of letters in the collection are Samuel Bendelson, writing from Camp Wadsworth (S.C.) in 1917, and S. Cillis, writing from Camp Upton and from France, 1917-1919. Both include postcards, and Cillis illustrates his letters with drawings and watercolors. Several others are represented by individual letters and notes. There is also a series of correspondence relating to the Diocese of New York's Committee on war work and chaplains' equipment, and some correspondence of Craig Colgate about the issue of Liberty loans in New York. Other material includes minutes of the meeting between representatives of the allied armies held at Chantilly on July 7, 1915 (in French, duplicated from typescript, marked Secret); a U.S. Army memo about carrier pigeons; a typescript of Henri Frémont's Verdun (journal de guerre d'un civil); a transcript of a radio talk given in 1939 by Raymond J. Walsh about his war experiences; and a typescript of an article by Mary Louise Basset about the war work of Rachael Davison, "Mother Davison."
